Explore and discover what it feels like to bike across the country, on a mountain bike, on what is called the most challenging bike route in North America. In her second book, The Spirit of the Trail, Carrie Morgridge and her husband John take you along this journey.
The Spirit of the Trail will inspire you to relive your own adventures. Whether you have always desired to bike across the country, or you have just wondered what is out there in wild North America. Carrie goes deep into details about their triumphs, their struggles for food and water, and how they pushed each other to their maximum physical and mental abilities.
“What we learned about the trail, besides how hard it was, is that people are kind, the days are long, but when you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything”, writes Morgridge. “The sights, sounds and smells of the trail are forever etched on my heart and in my head. There is nothing else I’ve done in my life that has created such lasting and fond memories.”
While the book was not intended to be a technical guide, nor a trail guide, the Morgridges make decisions that will help the reader plan their own journey on the route, should they choose to do so. There is an adventurer in all of us, and this book will trigger your own memories of personal outdoor experiences.
Through her role as Vice President of The Morgridge Family Foundation, Morgridge has countless examples of where true grit and determination brought an excellent idea or project to life. Discovering brilliance and passion in the leaders of non profit organization is a speciality that Morgridge is most proud of. She has dedicated her professional philanthropic life to honing this skill.
In her first book, Every Gift Matters, How Your Passion Can Change the World, she shares real-life stories of how her hands-on approach to giving has transformed lives, including her own. Morgridge inspires others to believe that they can also make a difference in their community, no matter the size of their gift.
The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route was established in 1998, known to some as the GDMBR, is not only a bike trail that thousands of bikers have ridden, it is considered the worlds hardest bike race. The race is grass roots organized by passionate volunteers. There is no prize money, nor cheering crowd at the end, just the bragging rights! The route will take you through the Canadian Rockies, into the Grizzly filled woods of Montana, to the plains of Wyoming, to the highest peak on the route in Colorado and through the artistic state of New Mexico.
In Spirit of the Trail, Carrie will introduce you to the kindness of people – and the warmth of small town charm. Come explore with them and discover for yourself the majesty of our Country and the Great Divide. Your journey starts now.
Carrie’s story of biking the Continental Divide is one of resilience, strength, and absolute entertainment. Cyclists and would-be bikers everywhere will enjoy her account of life on the road.
